How the Teacher Directory works

The Teacher Directory search screen includes three search fields: discipline, zip code, and maximum distance.

Each field must be completed to obtain search results. Teachers within proximity of the zip code entered will be displayed in order of distance, from nearest to farthest.

Search results will be displayed in a table listing the following from left to right:

  • teacher name and contact link
  • school name
  • business address and Google Maps link
  • instrument or subject
  • distance

A “Contact” link will appear under the teachers' names. The link allows direct communication between the student and teacher through email. The teacher’s email address is kept private through this link, and will remain private until the teacher responds to the student by email. Teachers' email addresses and phone numbers will never be listed or appear in the Directory.

How to add your name to the Directory

You will need to have a personal Royal Conservatory Teacher Account and Teacher Number under your own e-mail address. You also must have submitted a student for a Royal Conservatory Assessment within the past two (2) years under that Teacher Number.

Click "Login" and then "Sign up for an account" if you do not have an account.

There are two addresses that a teacher can include in the Directory. The first is the main profile address on the "My Profile" page, which has the teacher's main contact information.

After clicking the checkbox a pop-up notice asking for confirmation will appear.

After clicking "OK", click "Save and Continue".

On the next detailed profile page teachers will be asked to provide the following information, as it applies to them:

  • primary subject or instrument
  • additional subjects taught
  • how many years they have taught
  • studio size
  • teacher association membership
  • affiliation with a school of private instruction (optional)
  • additional teaching address (optional)

A teacher can add up to two studio addresses on the detailed profile page, including a school (conservatory or academy) or second private studio address.

To add a second studio address to the Directory:

  • click the checkbox "Do you have an additional address at which you teach? (check if yes)"
  • click "Save and Continue"

Teachers can choose to have one or both of these addresses displayed in the directory by clicking on the checkbox below each address. The checkbox must be checked for the teacher to show up in the search results. When the checkbox is clicked, a pop-up box will appear confirming that the teacher consents to having their information listed in the Directory.

A teacher may uncheck the "Show this address in the on-line Teacher Directory?" box at any time. Their information (for that particular address) will no longer be displayed in the Directory.

Teachers must  indicate which  instruments they teach (primary and additional) on the detailed profile page in order for their information to be displayed in the directory.

Frequently-Asked Questions

What is the Teacher Directory?

The Teacher Directory offers prospective students and parents an opportunity to find a teacher in their community who is experienced with The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. The Directory includes teachers who have submitted at least one student for an assessment within the last two (2) years, and therefore have access to the support and materials offered by The Royal Conservatory. The Teacher Directory is a free service provided by The Royal Conservatory. Teachers do not pay to be listed, and the Directory is not an endorsement of specific teachers.

I am a teacher who has submitted students for Royal Conservatory assessments. How can I become listed in the Directory?

You will need to have a personal Royal Conservatory Teacher Account and Teacher Number under your own e-mail address. You also must have submitted a student for a Royal Conservatory Assessment within the past two (2) years under that Teacher Number.

Simply log in to your account on our website, complete your profile, and check the box to have your information made available to prospective students. It only takes a few minutes and you can opt out any time should you change your mind. New teachers are added after the marks from each assessment session have been reported and provided to students and teachers.
Click "Login" and then "Sign up for an RCM account" if you do not have an account.

How can I tell if a teacher listed in the Directory is qualified to teach The Royal Conservatory curriculum?

The Directory is a listing service that shows teachers who have participated in our assessment system within the last two (2) years. The Teacher Directory does not endorse any particular teacher. We recommend that prospective students consider their needs carefully in choosing the teacher that is right for them.

I just submitted my first student. When will my name be added to the Directory?

Newly active teachers are added to the Directory periodically throughout the year after the marks from each assessment session have been reported and provided to students and teachers.

Will my status in the Directory change over time?

As long as you continue to participate in The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program by submitting students for assessments, your name will remain in the Directory. If after two (2) years you have not submitted any students for assessments, your name will be dropped from the Directory. Your listing can be restored once you submit another assessment student. Newly active teachers are added to the Directory periodically throughout the year. Inactive teachers are removed from the Directory annually each summer.

How does a prospective student contact a teacher?

The search results provide a “Contact” link. This allows direct communication between the student and teacher through email. The teacher’s email address is kept private through this link, and will remain private until the teacher responds to the student by email.

What information will be shown to the public?

A teacher’s name, teaching environment (private studio or school), address, and primary instrument will be shown in the search results. The results will also show the distance between the teaching studio or music school and the student’s address. Only teachers who have agreed to be listed are shown in the Directory. Below is a screen capture of search results.

What if I don’t want to list my home address?

Teachers have the option to list more than one teaching address and/or to keep your home address private. When filling out your profile be sure that you consent to publish only the addresses that you would like made public by checking the box at the bottom of the page.

I don’t want to be listed in the Directory. How do I ensure my name is not shown?

The Directory is a service that teachers must opt in to receive. If you opt not to be included, you will not be. If you have consented to have your information made available to prospective students and later change your mind, you can opt out by unchecking the consent checkbox in your profile on The Royal Conservatory website at any time.

What if I change my mind and want to be removed from the Directory?

You are free to update your profile or remove your name from the Directory at any time.

Can any teacher add their name to the Directory?

In order to be listed in the Directory teachers must have submitted students for Royal Conservatory Assessments within the last two (2) years. All teachers in the Directory have opted in to have their information made available to the public.
